Speedster provides spark to earn the first weekly award for East Texas in 2012.

In the second round of weekly awards in the Texas Collegiate League in 2012, the Pump Jacks’ Kirby Pellant was named the Player of the Week for the week ending June 17. It is the first weekly honor this season for an East Texas player.

A 2011 TCL All-Star, Pellant is picking up right where he left off last summer. In his first full week back with the Jacks after spending this past year at Ohio State, Pellant batted .588 with ten hits in six games including three doubles. He also scored six runs while driving in five this past week as the Pump Jacks went 4-2 in the games Pellant played in.

In addition to the numbers at the plate, Pellant performed on the basepaths. The TCL leader in stolen bases last summer and the second-leading base thief in the Big Ten conference this past spring, Pellant stole three bases this week without being caught once.

Pellant and the Pump Jacks are back in action on Wednesday night when they head on the road to face the Texas Marshals. The Jacks return home for a two-game set with the Victoria Generals on Thursday and Friday nights. Fans can enjoy $1 draft beers and 50-cent soft drinks in the second Thirsty Thursday of the season at Driller Park, and can watch the night sky light up with fireworks in the first Fireworks Friday of the summer, sponsored by 1st Choice Personnel and CBS-19.
